Lions fall 5-2 at No. 16 Central Missouri

Warrensburg, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern baseball team led 2-1 after five innings, but a four-run sixth for 16th-ranked Central Missouri lifted the Mules over the Lions 5-2 in the second game of the series between the two teams.

Southern (26-12, 16-11 MIAA) got a 2-for-4 day from both Chris Hoffman and Danny Biggs. Hoffman drove in two, while Jacob Bryant and Danny Biggs scored a run each.

Payton Walker started and went five and two thirds of an inning, striking out five and walking just one. He allowed four runs and moved his record to 6-3 on the year. Conner Matson threw an inning, while Kyle McCulloch threw an inning and a third.

Central (24-10, 22-5 MIAA) had a pair of hits each from Matt Safranek and Miles Orscheln.

The Mules went on top in the second with an RBI from Safranek, but Southern took the lead back in the fifth on a two-RBI double from Hoffman. With two outs, Biggs singled to right and then stole second. Bryant walked behind him and Hoffman doubled down the right field line to score both runners.

Central had a big sixth inning that was highlighted by Orscheln's two-run triple.

The two teams will be back in action tomorrow afternoon with a 1 pm first pitch.
