Kearney, Neb. -- Despite hitting three home runs on the afternoon, the seventh-ranked Missouri Southern baseball team fell 10-7 today at Nebraska-Kearney.
The Lions (10-3, 2-3 MIAA) had home runs from
Jesse Rall, Tyler Suterland and
Brett Graham in the game. Graham went 3-for-5 with a run and three driven in, while
Jacob Bryant and Rall had two hits each. Bryant scored once and Rall drove in three, while scoring one run. Sutherland scored twice and drove in a run, while
Joe Paulino had a hit.
Cody Smith started for the Lions and went four innings, allowing just four hits, but errors forced five unearned runs for the starter as he moved his record to 1-1 on the season.
Zach Litchen pitched an inning and two-thirds, while
Conner Matson threw the final two and a third.
UNK (7-6, 5-0 MIAA)was led by Easton Edmond, going 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs and three runs scored.
The Lions led 4-0 after the top of the third, picking up a run in the first on a Rall RBI single, and then three in the third on a back-to-back home runs from Rall and Sutherland.
UNK, however tied the game with a four spot in the bottom of the frame, before the Lions would go back up 7-4 after three more runs in the top of the fifth on Graham's homer.
The Lopers answered right back and scored five in the bottom of the fifth and added an insurance run in the sixth.
The two teams will finish off the series tomorrow with a single, nine-inning game beginning at 12 pm.
