Kearney, Neb. -- The seventh-ranked Missouri Southern baseball team fell behind early and couldn't come back as the Lions fell 5-2 today at Nebraska-Kearney.
Southern (10-2, 2-2 MIAA) had just four hits on the day with
Jackson Cain going 2-for-4 on the afternoon.
Richie Gorski had a home run, going 1-for-3 with a pair driven in and a run scored.
Trever Burkdoll scored a run, while
Tyler Sutherland had the Lions other hit.
UNK (6-6, 4-0 MIAA) had three hits from Connor Messinger and two each from Easton Edmond, Pate Katechis and Matt Salamon.
Southern starter
Payton Walker suffered his first loss of the season moving his record to 2-1 on the year. Walker went five innings, while
Sean Goostree and
Conner Matson threw the final three innings between the two of them.
The Lopers scored a run in the first, two in the third and two in the fifth to go up 5-0.
Southern scored its two runs on a two-run home run from Gorski in the 8th.
The two teams will be back in action tomorrow. First pitch from Kearney is slated for 2 pm.
