Topeka, Kan. -- The 19th ranked Missouri Southern baseball team dropped a second-straight game today at Washburn, falling 9-6 to the Ichabods at Falley Field.
Southern (18-7, 8-7 MIAA) was led offensively by
Tyler Sutherland who went 2-for-4 with three RBIs.
Jackson Cain and
Matt Smith had a pair of hits each, while
Chris Hoffman and
Trever Burkdoll had a hit each. Hoffman,
Richie Gorski, Smith and Burkdoll scored a run each, while Gorski, Smith and
Jacob Bryant had an RBI each.
Payton Walker started and went three innings, allowing six runs on six hits to move his record to 5-2 on the season.
Matt Harvey threw an inning and two thirds, while
Cody Smith threw two innings and
Trenton Moeller threw the final inning and a third.
Washburn's (14-11, 9-6 MIAA) Riley Krane went 4-for-4 with two runs scored, while Bowe Behymer drove in three.
Southern went on top 3-0 after the second inning when Sutherland singled home Burkdoll and Smith. Bryant also had an RBI in the inning.
Washburn answered back with five runs in the third, one in the fourth and two in the fifth to go up 8-3 after five innings.
Sutherland added a sacrifice fly in the sixth to make the score 8-4, while the Lions added a run in the seventh on an RBI from Smith.
The Ichabods added a run in the eighth and the Lions scored a run in the ninth on a Gorski sacrifice fly, but Southern couldn't complete the comeback.
The two teams will finish up the series tomorrow afternoon. First pitch is slated for 4 pm.
