Payton Walker set the all-time MSSU strikeout record today as the tenth ranked Lions won 5-2 today over Lindenwood in front of a large crowd at Warren Turner Field.
Walker, a native of Carl Junction, struck out 11 in a complete-game win. He walked just three and scattered four hits as he moved his record to 3-0 on the year. He now has 211 career strikeouts, passing Doug Stockham (84-87).
Jesse Rall picked up a pair of homers as he went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and three runs scored.
Brett Graham was 2-for-4 with an RBI, while
Richie Gorski and
Jacob Bryant both had an RBI. Gorski drove in a run, as well as Tyler Suterland.
The game was scoreless until the fourth when the Lions (9-1, 1-1MIAA) went on top after Sutherland drove in Rall. After Lindenwood (6-3, 1-1 MIAA) tied it at one, Southern scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth. Gorski homered to lead off the inning, and Rall hit his first longball, as well.
Jacob Bryant doubled and later scored on an RBI single from Graham.
Rall added another home run in the eighth after Lindenwood had scored in their half of the inning.
Southern will be back in action tomorrow as the two teams will finish off the series with a single, nine-inning game. First pitch from Turner field is slated for 1 pm.
