Emporia, Kan. - The Missouri Southern Lions Women's Soccer team could not muster a goal as they fell 3-0 to Emporia State Sunday afternoon at the ESU Soccer Pitch.
Emporia State (5-5-2, 3-2-0 MIAA) scored first in the 21st minute when Emily Haselwood headed home a cross from Maddie Taylor into the lower right corner off a corner kick. ESU added two second half goals in the 66th and 84th minute to come away with the 3-0 win.
The Hornets out shot Southern (3-7-1, 0-5-0 MIAA) 20-12 and had the shots on goal advantage 9-5. Senior Hanna Cook led the Southern offensive attack with three shots, one on goal while fellow senior
Carly Cecil added three shots of her own. Sophomore
Bailey North added two shots, both on goal, and junior
Taylor Beck took two shots, one on goal, for the Lions. Â Freshman
Luz Galindo played all 90 minutes in the net recording six saves while facing 20 Emporia State shots.
The Lions will return home to Hal Bodon Field on Thursday as they host the Lopers of Nebraska-Kearney at 6 p.m.
