Southern Battles Lopers to a Draw

Joplin, Mo. - The Missouri Southern Women's Soccer team battled the University of Nebraska at Kearney Lopers to a draw Thursday night at Fred G. Hughes Stadium.

After Mother Nature forced the MIAA match between the Lions (3-7-2, 0-5-1 MIAA) and UNK (4-7-2, 1-4-1 MIAA) to be moved from Hal Bodon Field, Southern battled with the Lopers to a double overtime draw on the turf. Both teams tallied 12 shots a piece while the Lions led UNK 4-3 in shots on goal.  Senior Sitona Holm recorded three shots, one on goal, and sophomore Bailey North also tallied three shots to lead the Lions' offensive attack. Six other Southern players recorded a shot with juniors Brooke Ishmael, Taylor Beck, and Elizabeth Saavedra each recording a shot on goal. The Lopers were led by Carly Brown with three shots, two on goal, and Kristyn Otter, Audrey Barrera, Micheala Hoffman, and Kadie Walaszczyk each tallied two shots.

Freshman Luz Galindo tallied her third fourth clean sheet of the season going all 110 minutes with three saves against 12 Loper shots. UNK goalie, Allie Prososki recorded four saves in the 110 minutes while facing 12 Missouri Southern shots.

Southern will face off with Fort Hays State in another MIAA match on Saturday at Fred G. Hughes Stadium with the kick off scheduled for 11 a.m.
