Topeka, Kan. - The Missouri Southern Women's Soccer team struck first Friday evening but could not hold on as Washburn got the come from behind 2-1 win at Yager Stadium at Moore Bowl.
Freshman
Tayler LePage got the goal for Southern (3-6-1, 0-4-0 MIAA) in the sixth minute, her second of the season, off a rebound on a corner kick from sophomore
Julia Liberty.  Washburn (6-4-1, 2-2-0) got the equalizer in the 23rd minute on a header from Ellie Karloff on a corner kick from Kelly Schunk. Karloff got the assist on the game winner in the 88th minute off a corner of her own as Mackenzie Heiman headed the ball past the Lion goalkeeper.
The Ichabods held the advantage in both shots, 14-9, and shots on goal, 9-5. Senior
Sitona Holm led Southern with four shots, two on goal and freshman
Brianna Smith added two shots, with one on goal. LePage had just the one shot while junior
Brooke Ishmael, and senior
Hannah Cook each added a single shot.
Freshman
Luz Galindo played all 90 minutes in the net for the Lions allowing the two goals while recording seven saves, five in the first half.
Up next for Southern is a MIAA match against Emporia State on Sunday October 9th at ESU Pitch and kickoff is slated for 2 p.m.
