Northwest Missouri Squeaks by Lions

Joplin, Mo. - The visiting Northwest Missouri State University Bearcats squeaked by Missouri Southern Saturday afternoon in a MIAA match at Hal Bodon Field.

Northwest Missouri (4-4-1, 2-1-0 MIAA) scored the match's lone goal in the 31st minute when Jessica Spradley touched in the ball off a misplayed Missouri Southern defensive clear. The Lions out shot NWMSU 14-10 in the match but the Bearcats held the advantage over Southern in shots on goal (SOG) 4-1.

Junior Taylor Beck led the Lions offense with four shots, while sophomore Julia Liberty and freshman Callie Degani added three shots each. Sophomore Bailey North recorded the Lions lone shot on goal in the 70th minute. Freshman Luz Galindo played all 90 minutes in the net recording three saves, all in the first half, while facing the 10 Northwest Missouri shots.

The Lions will play at Southwest Baptist on Tuesday in a non-conference match that was rescheduled from Sept. 16. Kickoff in Bolivar is scheduled for 4 p.m.
