Records Fall As Lions Track Competes At Pittsburg State

Pittsburg, Kan. -- For the second-straight week, freshman Emily Presley came away with a win and a part of school history, while Jayce Thomas etched his name again in the record books as the men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Pittsburg State Invitational today. 

Presley vaulted to a height of 12-11.75, breaking the previous mark of 12-07.50 which she had tied last weekend in winning the event at home. The mark currently ranks fourth-best in Division II and is one of just four marks at 13 feet or more this year. Melanie Bower also came away with a provisional mark in the event, clearing 12 feet and finishing fifth place overall. 

In the men's weight throw, Tyler Hovey placed 12th with a distance of 15.96 meters, while Hovey as 11th in the shot put with a provisional distance of 15.78 meters. 

Katie Skelton was 27th in the women's shot, while Victoria Foley ws fifth in the weight throw with a provisional distance of 17.03 meters. 

Kennan Harrison placed 19th in the triple jump, leaping 12.60 meters, while Kaylee Morgan was third in the women's long jump with a provisional mark of 5.66 meters, and Allie Heckemeyer placed 30th. Sierra Barrett and Heckemeyer placed 13th and 14th, respectively in the triple jump. 

Cody Vogt and Jayce Thomas placed 11th and 13th in the high jump with identical heights of 1.93 meters, while Thomas was fourth in the pole vault with a height of 4.87 meters. Morgan Hold also cleared 4.87m, but placed ninth overall in the event. 

In the running events, Emily Harris won the mile with a provisional time of 4:53.75, while Jacob Coffman placed 25th in the men's mile. Thomas was seventh in the 60m hurdles in a provisional time of 8.18 that ties a school record set by Jazz Allen in 2012.

Rachel Ray was 13th in the 600y run, while Ben Grant placed 29th in the 800m. Sara Lin was 33rd in the women's 800m, while Eric Schott wsa second and Cynthia Torres was third in their respective races of the 3k.

Both teams will be back in action next weekend when the Lions play host to the MSSU Lion Open on Friday and Saturday.
