Joplin, Mo. - The Missouri Southern Lions Soccer team (2-3-0) fell behind early as visiting Southwest Baptist (2-3-0) pulled out a 5-2 win at Hal Bodon Field Thursday evening.
SBU got things started in the 12th minute as Caroline Karlsson scored her first goal of the season off the assist from Whitney Snow, 27 minutes later Karlsson would get an assist as Haylee Thibodeaux scored her first of the season as the Bearcats went into the break up 2-0. Karla Jamison would add two more goals, on in the 64th and again in the 67th minutes to make it 4-0 SBU.
The Lions would mount a comeback as junior
Hannah Cook scored her second goal of the season off a penalty kick following a red card for SBU's AC Pettit in the 69th minute. Just a few minutes later sophomore
Hannah Bomar would make it 4-2 as she put home a rebound off freshman
Bailey North's shot that ricocheted off the left post.
SBU's Karlsson would put the game out of reach as she ran past the Southern defense and beat the goalkeeper in the 89th minute to make it 5-2.
On the night SBU out shot the Lions 24-14, while Southern led in corners at 6-5. Senior
Hannah Ishmael led the way in shots for the Lions with five on the night, one shot on goal. Bomar took three, while North, Cook, and senior
Karley Thomas each added two.

Shawnee Phillips played all 90 minutes in the net as she allowed the five goals but collected nine saves on the evening.
Up next the Lions will host Northeastern State in a non-conference match on Saturday, September 19. Kickoff for the match is scheduled at 1pm.
