Box Score 2 Joplin, Mo. - Missouri Southern Softball (1-11) dropped two heart breakers, 2-1 & 3-2, to the 12th ranked Arkansas Tech Golden Suns (13-5) Wednesday evening in Joplin.
Game One
In the first game Arkansas Tech got on the board first as Ashley Savage sent a solo home run over the left field fence. The Lions answered back in the bottom of the fifth as Sarah Williams led off with a single to center field. Williams then moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Lindsey Gorham. Alana Hester beat out a single right back to the ATU pitcher that moved Williams to third and Williams scored off an infield single by Abi Corbett.
The Golden Suns would retake the lead in the sixth as Kambri Hill scored off a single by Savage and an error.
Kali' Hodson (0-5) went the distance for the Lions as she pitched seven innings allowing two runs, both earned, on 11 hits with two strike outs.
Game Two
The night cap saw ATU score first again by way of the long ball as Miranda Dupree lofted one over the left field fence. The Golden Suns added two more in the top of the sixth to go up 3-0 before Southern's bats would come alive.
Hester got the home half started with a bunt single that died right in front of the plate and advanced to second on an infield single by Corbett. Michala Wood's single to right field brought home Hester and advanced Corbett to third. Kathryn Goins-Osburn had a RBI ground out to the pitcher that scored Corbett to make the game 3-2.
Ashley Lutz (1-5) when the distance in the night cap pitching seven innings and allowing three runs, all earned, on five hits with six strikeouts.
The Lions will be back in action this week as they open MIAA play at Fort Hays State on Friday and at Nebraska-Kearney on Saturday.
