Southern Wins Strike Out Cancer Game Against Pittsburg State

Joplin, Mo. - After three weather postponements, the Missouri Southern Lions (15-14, 1-3 MIAA) and the Gorillas of Pittsburg State finally got to play their non-conference game today at Lea Kungle Field in Joplin as the Lions emerged victorious 4-3.

Sophomore Jessica Brooks led the way offensively for Southern as she went 2-for-3 at the dish with a double and three RBIs.  Juniors Brianna Fulkerson, Breanna Volkmann, Natalie Nelson, and Lydia Niemegeers scored the four runs for the Lions.

Junior Nicole Reed (11-4) pitched a complete game allowing three runs on five hits and striking out nine.  The nine strike outs give Reed 111 on the season and moves her into eighth on the single-season records list.

Southern will travel to Rolla tomorrow to take on the Lady Miners of Missouri S&T in a double-header.  Game one is scheduled to start at 2:30pm.  The Lions will return home this weekend as they host the Fort Hays Tigers on Friday beginning at 4pm and the Washburn Lady Blues on Saturday with games starting at 2pm.
