Joplin, Mo. - The Missouri Southern Lions softball team (21-16, 4-4 MIAA) earned a pair of wins Tuesday afternoon, defeating visiting Northeastern State 2-1 and 7-1 in Joplin.

Game One

Senior Tiffany Bennett (4-9) pitched the best game of her season going seven innings giving up the lone NSU run in the first inning then striking out four and walking only one batter.

Juniors Brianna Fulkerson, Alysha Poteat, and Nicole Reed recorded the three hits for the Lions as Fulkerson was scored in the bottom of the first inning on a double by Poteat.  Nicole Reed singled to center, freshman Madison Reed then came in to run and stole second base and advanced to third on a wild pitch then scored the winning run on a second wild pitch of the inning.

Game Two

The nightcap saw Southern's bats come alive recording 10 hits and scoring seven runs on the RiverHawks.

Junior Breanna Volkmann led the way for the Lions as she went 3-for-4 at the plate while scoring three runs and recording a RBI.  Nicole Reed batted in five runs and senior Lauren Hasty picked up the final RBI.

Sophomore Kayce Moore (2-1) pitched the complete game giving up the lone RiverHawks run in the first inning then settled down to hold Northeastern to just six more baserunners.  Moore struck out two and walked a solo RiverHawk.

The Lions will travel to Jefferson City, Mo. tomorrow to take on the Linclon University Blue Tigers in a conference double header that was postponed due to weather back on March 25.  Southern will then head to Kirksville to take part in the MIAA North Crossover Thursday thru Sunday that is hosted by Truman State.
