Joplin, Mo. -- Missouri Southern senior point guard Skyler Bowlin has been named the Daktronics South Central Region Player of the Year as voted on by the sports information directors in the region.
The 2011 MIAA Player and Defensive Player of the Year, Bowlin was also a first-team pick on the All-Region team, as well as a first-team All-MIAA selection and a member of the MIAA's All-Defensive Team. Bowlin is the MSSU all-time leader in three-pointers with 219, while his 1,637 career points, rank him fourth all-time. His 546 assists and 261 steals rank third and second all-time in Southern history and his career free-throw percentage of .828 ranks second all-time.
He leads the MIAA in steals and ranks 19th in d-2, while being 2nd in the MIAA in assists and 13th in d-2 in that category. He was also named to the 2011 MIAA All-Tournament team.
Joining Bowlin with All-Region Accolades is junior Jason Adams as the Carthage native picked up second-team honors this year. Adams is third in the MIAA in scoring this season at 19.0 per game and now has 1,381 career points ranking 7th all-time at Southern. He now has 144 three pointers, ranking him 3rd all-time in that category and ranks in the top ten in five different offensive categories in the MIAA.
Bowlin was one of two players from the MIAA named first-team All-Region joining Logan Stutz of Washburn. Adams, Dominique Jones of FHSU and UNO's Tyler Bullock were the MIAA's representatives on the second-team. The complete All-Region list is below.
Bowlin and the Lions will open up the 2011 NCAA Division II South Central Region Tournament this Saturday, March 12 taking on Washburn at 2:30 pm from the University of Central Oklahoma.
