Pittsburg, Kan. -- Brennan Benkert
had another stellar day at the 2010 MIAA Outdoor Track and Field
Championships today as the senior broke his school record in the
1,500 meters, as well as setting a new MIAA mark in winning the
event and helped the Lions to a fourth place team finish.
Benkert ran a 3:47.27 today, breaking his previous mark of
3:48.73 he set last week. The mark is an automatic qualifying mark
and is a new MIAA meet record. Aki Nummela
finished fifth in the event, while Jarkko Jarvenpaa was
sixth.
Nummela and Jarvenpaa went first and second in the 5k with both
runners picking up All-MIAA honors and Nick Niggemann
and Dustin
Dixon was 14th and 19th in the event.
Jordan
Patton finished second in the 100 meters and third in the 200
meters to earn All-MIAA status in both events. D'Angelo
Wood, Kevin
Wright and Andrew
Wright were 4th, 7th and 8th in the 400 meters. Kevin Wright
placed seventh in the 400m hurdles and eighth in the 110m
hurdles.
The 4x100m team of Maurlon Bembry, Jordan Patton, Jacob Khan and
Andrew Wright placed second to earn All-MIAA status. The team
finished just .08 behind the winning team from Central Missouri.
Nummela was third in the 800 meters to pick up All-MIAA status
in the event, while both Corey
Reynolds and Chris Brown
cleared 6-9 in the high jump to finish third and earn All-MIAA
status.
James
Coleman threw a personal best, set a new school record and
earned an automatic qualifying mark in the discus when he finished
second with a heave of 176-03. Coleman also picked up a provisional
in the shot put with a fifth place finish, and Seth
Hackney and Kyle
Hancock were 9th and 12th, respectively. Coleman was named the
Freshman High Point Award winner for his efforts.
Central Missouri won the event with Pittsburg State placing
second and Emporia State third. The Lions were fourth followed by
Northwest Missouri, Southwest Baptist, Fort Hays State and
Truman.
The Lions will be back in action next week as Emporia State
hosts their Last Chance meet.
