Fayetteville, Ark. – Both Brennan Benkert
and Aki
Nummela ran faster than the school record in the 1,500 meters
as the Lions competed at the University of Arkansas Twilight
tonight in Fayetteville.
Benkert finished tenth in the event, but was the top division
II time with a mark of 3:48.73. The time is a new school record,
breaking Nummela's record of 3:50.06 he set earlier in the season
on this very same track. Benkert now ranks first in the MIAA
and 6th in division II in the 1,500 meters. It is a
provisional in the event.
Nummela finished 12th in the event and had a time
faster than his previous record with a mark of 3:49.59. The time is
a provisional in the event and ranks second in the MIAA and
10th in division II.
Corey
Reynolds had the top collegiate height and placed second in the
high jump with a height of 6-7, while Jordan
Patton and Maurlon
Bembry were fifth and 19th respectively in the
100m.
James
Coleman placed sixth, but was the top division II performer
with a provisional distance of 165-10 in the discus and Andrew
Gassen was eighth in the javelin. Taylor
McClelland was 12th in the long jump and Kyle
Hancock placed 11th in the hammer. Seth
Hackney placed sixth in the shot put, while Hancock was
10th.
The Lions 4x100 meter relay team placed third with a time of
41.06, while Nick Niggeman placed 16
th in the 5k. Kevin
Wright, D'Angelo
Wood, Andrew
Wright and
Jacob Khan
placed 13
th, 20
th, 23
rd and
25
th, respectively in the 400m.
The Lions will be back in action next weekend at the 2010 MIAA
Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Pittsburg State.
