Joplin, Mo. - The Missouri Southern men's track
and field team sent a contingent of athletes to both Central
Missouri and the University of New Mexico this weekend and came
away with a provisional and an event win.
At New Mexico, Dustin Dixon came away with a win in the 5k as he
and Brennan Benkert placed first and second. Dixon ran a time of
14:58.63, while Josh Mathis was sixth and Nick Niggeman placed
16th. Corey Reynolds and Chris Brown both placed fifth in the high
jump with a provisional height of 6-08.75. Aki Nummela was 12th in
the 800 meters and 16th in the mile, while Mathis placed 29th in
the mile
Seth Hackney placed 10th in the shot put with a provisional
distance of 52-7.5, while Kyle Hancock was 19th. Benkert was 13th
in the 3k.
In action at the Central Missouri Mule Relays, Jordan Patton
followed up his strong performance in the 60 meter dash from a week
ago with a fourth place finish in a provisional time of 6.87. Corey
Shumate placed second in the pole vault with a height of 15-7.00,
while Michael Juergens was fourth and DJ Dunmire placed 8th.
Kevin Wight was seventh in the hurdles and 12th in the 600 yard,
while Adrian Liddell placed 22nd in the 600. Jake Crocker placed
19th in the 5k while Andrew Wright was 6th in the 400 meters. Jerry
Jones was sixth in the triple jump, while Tyler Burgess was 17th in
the weight throw.
Sam Pogue and Brandon Weaver were 16th and 19th in the 800
meter, while Jacob Khan, Maurlon Bembry and Jones placed 14th, 15th
and 21st, respectively in the 200 meters.
Southern will be back in action next weekend at both the
Pittsburg State Invitational and the Tyson Invitational at
Arkansas.
