Topeka, Kan. - After losing 10 straight road meetings at Washburn, the Missouri Southern Lions have now won two of the last three meetings in Topeka, Kan. after riding Jasmine Lovejoy's 23 points and career-high 17 rebounds to a 70-65 win over the No. 6-ranked and previously undefeated Washburn Lady Blues Saturday evening at Lee Arena.

Lovejoy snapped a 60-60 tie with a layup with 3:36 left that gave the Lions the lead for good. The Lions then forced a turnover on the other end that led to a layup by Lindsey Rujawitz for a four-point Southern lead.

After a three-point play by Rose Hammond cut the Lion lead to one with 1:58 remaining, Lovejoy secured an offensive rebound and drew a foul and then nailed a pair of free throws that made it 66-63.

The Lions then created another turnover on the defensive end and Myriah Hicks' two free throws put the Lions up by five with just 49 seconds left.

WU made it a one-possession game on two freebies by Hope Gregory at the eight second mark, but Hicks again hit two at the charity stripe to seal the victory for the Lions.

Things did not start out well at all for the Lions as the Lady Blues (13-1, 7-1 MIAA) scored the first five points of the game and jumped out to a 15-3 lead at the 15:49 mark of the first half.

The Lions still trailed by 11 at 32-21 when they ran off 12 straight points to take their first lead of the game with 27 seconds left in the opening half.

Layups from Lovejoy and LaTice Jones brought the Lions (9-5, 3-4 MIAA) to within seven before a trey from Jolea Apon made it a four-point game with 1:20 left.

Lovejoy continued the outburst with a three-point play and two free throws from Randi Henderson gave the Lions a 33-32 lead with 27 seconds left in the first half.

A three by Amanda Fessenden put the Lady Blues up by two going into halftime.

Lovejoy hit 7-of-13 from the field and 9-of-13 from the free-throw line. Apon and Jones also reached double-figures with 11 points each.

Hammond scored 15 and Fessenden tallied 14 to lead the Lady Blues.

The Lions will now turnaround and play on Monday evening (Jan. 11) at Fort Hays State. Game-time is set for 5:30 p.m. MSSU and FHSU split the season series last year, with each school securing a home victory.
