Joplin, Mo -- The Missouri Southern men's track
and field team picked up four provisionals and a school record in
the 60 meter dash in the final day of the 2010 Fazolis/Baymont Inn
Invitational today at the Leggett & Platt Athletic
Center.
Jordan Patton finished second in the 60 meter dash and in doing
so set a new Missouri Southern indoor record with a provisional
time of 6.85. The time is good enough for 10th fastest in Division
II this season and bests the previous record of 6.99 by Moses Manga
at the 2004 MIAA Championships. It is the second-fastest time in
the MIAA this season.
Brennan Benkert took home the title in the mile with a
provisional time of 4:12.55. Dustin Dixon was second, while Josh
Mathis was fifth and Nick Niggeman placed 14th.
Seth Hackney placed third and picked up a provisional with a
distance of 53-01.00 in the shot put. Kyle Hancock was sixth, while
James Coleman and Andrew Gassen placed 8th and 11th, respectively.
Chris Brown had a night with a huge win in the high jump, leaping
to a provisional height of 6-10.75. That height is second-best in
the MIAA and sixth best in Division II. Corey Reynolds was second
with a height of 6-07.50.
In the pole vault, Michael Juergens, Corey Shumate and DJ
Dunmire placed 7-8-9. Kevin Wright was sixth in the 400 and seventh
in the 60 meter hurdles. Jacob Khan was 15th in the 400 meters,
while Adrian Liddell, Sam Pogue, and Brandon Weaver finished 11th,
14th, and 21st in the 800 meters. Jake Crocker placed 17th in the
5k and Jerry Jones was seventh in the triple jump.
The Lions will be back in action, next weekend traveling to the
University of New Mexico on Friday and Saturday.
