Joplin, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern men's
track and field team took home two more provisional scores today in
events at the Arkansas Razorback Invitational and in the final day
of the MSSU/Radio Shack Invitational.
Junior Corey Reynolds improved on his provisional from a night
prior at Arkansas, by winning the high jump with a height of six
feet, eight and three quarter inches. Junior Chris Brown was third
in the event with a height of six feet, six and three quarter
inches.
At Arkansas, junior Aki Nummela, running in the championship
mile, scored a provisional with a time of 4:13.33. He finished 14th
overall, but was fourth in his heat and placed in front of five
Division I runners.
Senior Corey Shumate won the pole vault at the Radio Shack with
a height of 15 feet, three inches. Freshmen Michael Juergens and DJ
Dunmire placed third and fourth, respectively in the event.
Sophomore Seth Hackney was second in the shot put with a heave of
51 feet, seven and a quarter inches, while senior Kyle Hancock was
fourth at 50 feet, one and a quarter inches. Freshman James Coleman
was seventh and junior Andrew Gassen was eighth.
Freshman Jerry Jones was fourth in the triple jump with a
distance of 43 feet, five inches. Senior Jordan Patton was third in
the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.97, while freshman Jacob Khan,
and juniors DJ Bland and Maurlon Bembry placed eighth and ninth,
respectively.
Junior Kevin Wright was second in the hurdles with a time of
8.56 and second in the 600 yard (1:16.54), while freshman Sam Pogue
placed 11th in the mile with a time of 4:39.12. The mile relay team
finished up the night with a fifth place finish.
Southern will be back at it next weekend as the Lions play host
to the Baymont Inn/Fazolis Invitational.

The Missouri Southern men's track and field team picked up two
provisionals on the night while a split squad of athletes competed
at both the Arkansas Invite and the MSSU/Radio Shack Invitational
held at the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center.
Senior Brennan Benkert took home the title in the 5k at the
University of Arkansas, and ran a provisional time of 14:36.84.
Senior Dustin Dixon was second in the race with a time of
15:03.69.
Junior Corey Reynolds placed fifth and earned a provisional of
his own in the high jump after clearing a height of 6-8.75. He
finished behind four SEC and Big 12 athletes and defeated five
other Division I jumpers, as well.
Sophomore Seth Hackney placed fourth in the shot put with a
distance of 51 feet, five and a half inches, while freshman James
Coleman was sixth with a heave of 48 feet, seven and a quarter.
They were the only two division II athletes in the event.
At the Radio Shack Invitational, the Lions were led by a 2-4
finish in the 3k as sophomore Josh Mathis placed second with a time
of 8:50.57 and freshman Nick Niggemann was fourth, finishing just
three seconds behind him.
Senior Jordan Patton was third in the 200 meter dash with a time
of 22.97, while freshman Jacob Khan, and juniors DJ Bland and
Maurlon Bembry placed 7-8-9. Andrew Gassen was sixth in the weight
throw and eighth in the long jump, while senior Kyle Hancock and
freshman Tyler Burgess placed 13th and 15th, respectively in the
weight throw.
The Lions will be back in action tomorrow returning to both
locations.
