Columbia, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern men's
and women's indoor track and field teams opened the 2010 season
today with a trip to the University of Missouri to compete in the
Missouri Invite at the Hearnes Center.
Junior Corey Reynolds had the top performance for the Lions with
a second-place finish in the high jump. He was the top collegiate
performance and tied for the top height (six foot, five inches)
losing on most misses. Junior Chris Brown was eighth in the event
at six feet, one and a quarter inches.
Senior Dustin Dixon was third in the 3k with a time of 8:40.16,
while sophomore D'Angelo Wood and junior DJ Bland placed fourth and
fifth in the 400 meters with times of 50.27 and 50.68,
respectively. Both nearly missed a provisional time in the event.
Sophomore Seth Hackney also narrowly missed out on a provisional
as he was the top division II performer, placing fourth in the shot
put with a distance of 51feet, 11 inches. Senior Kyle Hancock was
ninth in the event, while sophomore Andrew Gassen was 12th. Gassen
placed 15th in the weight throw, while Hancock was 20th and
freshman Tyler Burgess placed 21st.
Senior Corey Shumate placed fifth in the pole vault with a
height of 15 feet, one inch, while freshman Adrian Liddell was
eighth in the 800m with a time of 2:00.56.
The Lions will be back in action on January 22-23 as they play
host to the MSSU/Radio Shack Invitational in the Leggett &
Platt Athletic Center.
