Tahlequah, Okla. - Jasmine Webb scored a game-high 26 points to lead the Northeastern State RiverHawks past the Missouri Southern Lions 67-50 Sunday afternoon (Nov. 15) at Jack Dobbins Fieldhouse in Tahlequah, Okla.

The season-opening loss for the Lions is their first in the last five years.

Webb got going early by scoring seven of NSU's first 10 points to help the RiverHawks (3-1) jump out to a 10-4 lead in the first four minutes of the contest.

Webb kept it going with a jumper and a tip-in as NSU built a 19-7 lead with 12:51 remaining.

The Lions (0-1) fought back with an 11-1 run on the strength of a pair of threes by Randi Henderson and also a trey by Jolea Apon to pull within 20-18 at the 6:40 mark of the first half.

But it didn't take long for the RiverHawks to regain the upper hand as they responded with a 13-2 run that was capped by a three by Taylor Lewis to go up 33-20 with 2:58 left in the first half.

The Lions closed the first half on a 9-4 run to close to 37-29 at the half.

LaTice Jones scored the first points of the second half that brought the Lions to within six, but the RiverHawks scored the next seven to take a commanding 44-31 lead.

The RiverHawks kept the Lions at bay the remainder of the second half and a three-point play by Webb gave NSU its largest lead of the game at 65-44 with 4:52 left in the game.

Apon led the Lions with 14 points and hit 4-of-10 from beyond the arc. Jones had a team-high eight boards for the Lions, while Henderson scored eight and grabbed seven rebounds along with a team-high four assists.

Webb's game-high point total came on 9-of-11 shooting from the field and 7-of-11 from the charity stripe. Webb also led the RiverHawks with nine rebounds.

The Lions will be back in action at the Emporia State Tip-Off Classic beginning on Friday evening (Nov. 20) against Evangel at 5:30 p.m. The Lions will then face Eastern New Mexico on Saturday evening (Nov. 21), also at 5:30 p.m. in Emporia, Kan.
