Joplin, Mo. -- Melanie Hall scored a goal and
dished out an assist as the Central Missouri Jennies broke open a
scoreless match with four goals in the last 30 minutes of the
second half to defeat the Missouri Southern Lions 4-0 Saturday
night (Oct. 17) at Fred G. Hughes Stadium. The match was once
again played at the Stadium due to continued soggy conditions at
Hal Bodon Field.
The Jennies nearly struck early in the match but a penalty kick
attempt by Kayla Shain hit the post in the sixth minute.
The Jennies' first score came when Eileen Miller put in a
bicycle kick from 20 yards out at the 60:48 mark of the second
half.
Aaryn Brooke scored just eight minutes later for the Jennies
(7-5-2, 6-3-1 MIAA) before Hall made it 3-0 by converting a
breakaway attempt from the left side at the 86:25 mark.
Hall then found Cara Hennahane with a pass off another breakaway
for a score from the middle of the box for the Jennies fourth goal
in the 89th minute.
Southern (4-10, 2-8 MIAA) kept the match scoreless for the first
60 minutes of play despite the Jennies out-shooting the Lions 8-0
in the first half and 23-3 overall.
Goalkeeper Randi Russell was a big reason the Lions stayed close
for much of the match by recording three saves in the first half
and nine overall. Lauren Bamvakais stopped two shots for the
Jennies.
The Lions will next play at Missouri Western on Saturday night
(Oct. 21) at 7 p.m. in St. Joseph, Mo.
