2013 - Bates was an honorable mention All-MIAAselection ... He appared in 18 games and finished the season wtihan 8-3 record ... he had a 3.88 ERA in 72 innings pitched, strikingout 58, while walking just 22 ... he finished the season with threecomplete games, including a 146-pitch win over No. 4 MissouriWestern in the MIAA Tournament sending the Lions to the finals ofthe tournament ... His final four outings of the year as the Lionsdrove into the playoffs, Bates threw 20.1 innings in four games,allowing just five earned runs for a 2.23 ERA and striking out14. 

Prior to Southern - Bates comes toSouthern after two seasons at Mountain View Junior College inTexas. A right handed pitcher, Bates appeared in 12 games lastseason as a sophomore and had an ERA of 2.46, while striking out 46and walking 27 in 66 innings pitched. A native of Killeen, Texas,Bates prepped at C.E. Ellison High School.
