Daniel McKinney

Daniel McKinney is in his second season with the Lions and came to Missouri Southern after spending the past season at Southwest Minnesota State University.

In 2019, the Lions saw two different receiving records broken as both Charles West and Keandre Bledsoe broke the reception records for a running back and tight end, respectively. West finished with 44 catches, while Bledsoe brought down 35 of his own.

At SMSU he had the number one wide receiver in the Northern Sun, Daniel Davis, who compiled 79 receptions 1,113 yards and nine touchdowns. As the Co-Pass Game Coordinator at SMSU he helped them to the number two pass offense in the league.

Before SMSU Daniel spent three seasons as passing game coordinator and wide receivers coach at Garden City Community College (Kan.). There he recruited and coached a number of All-Americans and All-Conference players. Notable players include Mike Hughes (1st round draft pick to Vikings), Jayru Campbell (2018 Harlon Hill Winner) and helped Garden City CC reach and win the NJCAA National Championship.

McKinney had an outstanding collegiate career, spending two seasons at City College of San Francisco, where he was named an All-American and helped lead the team to the 2011 junior college national championship. He then transferred to Florida Atlantic University where he played two seasons and led the team in receptions (49) and yards (615) during the 2013 season. He was twice named honorable mention all-conference.

Following his collegiate career, McKinney signed as an undrafted free agent in 2014 with the Washington Redskins.

McKinney earned his bachelor’s degree in general studies from FAU in 2014 and is pursuing his master’s degree in physical education with an emphasis in coaching of sport at SMSU.
