Prior to Southern
Brooks, who prepped at Springfield Central High School under the direction of coach Jordan Epps, scored over 1,500 points, averaging 17.6 ppg, 5.8 rpg, 3.2 apg, and 2.0 bpg on 59.6% shooting and 45.1% from three, earning Class 6 Co-Player of the Year, All O-Zone Boys Basketball Player of the Year, and Springfield Sports Commission Boys Basketball Player of the Year honors, along with All-Conference, All-District, and All-State selections. He won the 2024 Bass Pro Tournament of Champions Dunk Contest, after finishing as the runner-up in 2023, and helped lead Springfield Central to a 20-win season, a third-place finish in the Class 6 MHSHAA State Tournament, and a Gold division title at the Blue & Gold Tournament in December 2023, defeating 10-time champion Glendale by 30 points.

Brooks, the son of Shelima and Demarkis Howard, is pursuing a degree in Business at Southern.
