PITTSBURG, Kan. – Missouri Southern continued its strong showing at the MIAA Championships on Saturday at the Russ Jewett Outdoor Track & Field Complex, adding multiple event titles and All-MIAA performances to remain atop the men's standings.
The Lions' men lead the team race with 67 points, while the women sit in second with 48.5 points, trailing Pittsburg State (69).
Missouri Southern saw big success in the throws, led by
Jamale Williams, who captured the MIAA title in the discus (58.21m) with an NCAA qualifying mark. The Lions added depth in the event with
Cedric Pearson (3rd),
Gabe Ford (4th),
Dalton Ellis (5th), and
Isaiah Waller (6th), totaling 28 points.
On the women's side,
Briar Gillum claimed the conference title in the discus (52.81m), while
Allyssa Mahone finished runner-up to give Southern a 1-2 finish and 18 team points.
In the high jump,
Avery Lawhorn earned All-MIAA honors with a third-place finish (1.66m), while
Marcy Miller added points in eighth.
On the track, the Lions continued to advance athletes to finals.
Rylan Wilson (200m),
Ella Fosse (200m), and
Kelton Sorrell (800m) all qualified, while
Aryah Moore and
Ella Fosse moved on in the 100m hurdles. In distance action,
Destiny Jaramillo scored in the 3,000m steeplechase with an eighth-place finish and a personal best.
In the heptathlon,
Claire Cole finished 10th with a personal-best 4,303 points, ranking seventh in program history.
Missouri Southern heads into the final day with momentum and a strong position in both team races as the MIAA Championships conclude Sunday.
