KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Missouri Southern student-athletes
Jamale Williams and
Briar Gillum were named the MIAA (Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association) Men's and Women's Outdoor Field Athletes of the Week, the league announced Tuesday afternoon.
Briar Gillum
Briar Gillum set the Missouri Southern hammer throw record this past weekend at the 2026 Pittsburg State Tune-Up (4/19/26). Gillum notched a personal-best throw of 61.45 for the top spot in MSSU track & field program history. She also finished second at the Pittsburg State Tune-Up in the discus with a mark of 50.04.
Earlier in the week, Gillum also captured the discus title at the 2026 Emporia State Relays (4/16) with a distance of 45.55m. She also earned second place in hammer in Emporia, Kansas, with 56.46m.
The Rossville, Kansas, native, ranks third in NCAA Division II for hammer and sixth for discus. Gillum has also captured three titles this 2026 outdoor season.
The weekly MIAA honor is the second of Gillum's collegiate career after she previously picked up the weekly award on April 8, 2025.
Jamale Williams
Jamale Williams won the 2026 Pittsburg State Tune-Up (4/19/26) discus throw title with a Missouri Southern program-record and personal-best mark of 59.86m.
Williams also took third in the shot put with 18.05m at the 2026 Pittsburg State Tune-Up.
The Leavenworth, Kansas, native, leads NCAA Division II in 2026 for discus and ranks seventh for shot put.
The weekly MIAA honor is the second of Williams' collegiate career after he previously picked up indoor laurels on Feb. 10.
