CLAREMORE, Okla. — Missouri Southern (5-7, 1-2 MIAA) fell to Rogers State (9-3, 2-1 MIAA) in a close 11-inning contest, with a final score of 8-7 at RCB Bank Sports Complex on Sunday. Missouri Southern State University managed to rally late, scoring three runs in both the eighth and ninth innings to push the game into extra innings.
Rogers State took an early lead in the first inning after two unearned runs scored on a single by T. Spainhowa, capitalizing on a fielding error. The inning ended with the Hillcats leading 2-0.
In the third inning, Rogers State extended its lead with another run when T. Spainhowa singled, bringing in S. Harris. This put Rogers State ahead 3-0.
Ethan Clark scored Missouri Southern's first run in the fourth inning on a passed ball following his single and advancement to third, reducing the deficit to 3-1. However, Rogers State responded with a solo home run by J. Mitchell, maintaining a 4-1 lead.
The sixth inning saw Rogers St. add another run on a double by T. Nelson, making it 5-1.
In the eighth inning, Southern narrowed the gap significantly.
Cy Darnell hit a three-run homer, scoring
Ethan Clark and
Will Doherty, tightening the score to 5-4. Rogers State answered with two runs of their own, extending their lead to 7-4.
MSSU battled back in the ninth inning with three runs.
Blake Jones scored on a single by Doherty, followed by Clark's RBI single that scored a pinch runner.
Jason Lazo's groundout allowed another run, tying the game at 7-7.
The game stretched into extra innings. The eleventh inning concluded with Rogers State clinching the win after L. Fuentes scored on an error, leading to an 8-7 victory over the Lions.
