SEMINOLE, Okla. — Missouri Southern baseball (1-0) secured a decisive 10-1 victory over Oklahoma Baptist (0-1) on Sunday in a neutral-site matchup at BCB Memorial Complex on the campus of Seminole State College.
MSSU showcased its power with three home runs, contributing to its 11-hit performance in its 2026 season opener.
Missouri Southern capitalized in the third inning with
Blake Jones delivering a two-run homer to left center, bringing in
Ethan Clark after he reached on a fielder's choice. This gave the Lions a 2-0 lead.
In the fifth inning,
Will Doherty extended the lead with a solo home run to right field. Later in the inning
Jake Johnson singled up the middle, driving in two more runs as Clark and
Jason Lazo scored, putting Southern up 5-0.
The seventh inning saw more action from the Lions. Clark reached on a fielding error and later scored on a two-run homer by Johnson, extending the lead to 8-0. The scoring continued in the eighth inning when Clark singled and advanced on an error, allowing
Will Potter and
Aiden Hinkle (2-for-4) to score, making it 10-0.
OBU managed to break its scoring drought in the ninth inning with Matt Marsic homering to left field. However, Missouri Southern's lead was insurmountable, securing a 10-1 victory.
Owen Schneider (1-0) pitched five innings, allowing four hits and no runs while striking out six batters for the win.
Caden Carter contributed with an inning of work, striking out all three batters he faced without allowing a hit.
Walker Sweet also delivered a scoreless inning, recording two strikeouts and giving up no hits.
Kyle Kaempf pitched one inning, surrendering one hit but keeping the opposition scoreless.
Michael Mulhollon closed out the game with the final inning, striking out three, but allowed a solo home run.
Doherty hit a home run and recorded two hits (2-for-5), adding one RBI and scoring once. Clark posted three hits (3-for-4), drove in one run, and scored three times. Jones tallied two runs and two RBI, hitting a home run in the process.
Johnson collected three hits (3-for-5) and four RBIs, including a home run, while scoring once.
MSSU next heads to the HSU Invitational hosted by Henderson State Feb. 6-8 in Arkadelphia, Arkansas.
