Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Rosencutter's Goal Leads Soccer to Friday Victory Over Northeastern State

JOPLIN, Mo. — Abbi Rosencutter scored the go-ahead goal in the second half, and goalkeeper Millie Robshaw-Charlesworth made nine saves to preserve the shutout as Missouri Southern women's soccer earned a 1-0 victory over Northeastern State Friday night at Hal Bodon Field.

MSSU is now 3-5-3 overall in 2026 and 2-2-2 in MIAA conference play. NSU is 6-4-2 overall and 2-3-1 in conference play.

With the victory, the Lions surpassed their win total from each of the past four seasons and matched their three-win mark from the 2021 season.

Robshaw-Charlesworth made nine saves over 90 minutes and finished without allowing a goal. The Leeds, England, freshman, picked up the shutout in her fourth career appearance and second career start.

Rosencutter scored on her lone shot and was credited with the game-winning goal. The goal was the first in her career as a Lion.

Olivia Hermann recorded an assist and put her only shot on goal. The point was the first in her career at MSSU.

Sophie Spoonmore led the Lions with a personal-best eight shots, including five on goal.

Missouri Southern generated the larger first-half chance volume, taking 14 shots and earning four corner kicks while forcing Juliette Langlet into five saves, but the first half finished without a goal.

Earlier, Spoonmore took a shot 20 seconds in, Hermann forced a save at 1:46, and Southern earned two corners in the opening four minutes before Spoonmore put another shot on frame at 4:57.

The Lions pressed again from 19:36 to 22:41 with six shots and two more corners, including attempts by Daniela Marquez, Talia Sanders, Samantha Glossup, Spoonmore and Ashley Chaput, then added later shots on goal from Spoonmore, Kortney Davis and Chaput.

The RiverHawks created eight first-half shots, but Robshaw-Charlesworth saved Annabella Trotter in the 14th minute and Gillian Wilson in the 31st to help send the Lions into halftime scoreless.

MSSU broke through at 61:23 in the second stanza when Rosencutter scored off Hermann's assist, moving in front 1-0.

Earlier in the second half, Robshaw-Charlesworth saved a shot from Mya Lynn Tran, and Missouri Southern answered with three shots in a little more than two minutes, including saves on attempts by Spoonmore and Alexis Rodriguez.

After the goal, the Lions absorbed a run of NSU pressure, with Robshaw-Charlesworth adding saves on shots from Tran, Wilson and Gracie Holmes while the defense handled multiple corners.

Southern also kept creating chances late, putting shots on goal through Presley Whitmire and Spoonmore, and finished the contest with the 1-0 score intact to secure the victory.

Missouri Southern has now won multiple MIAA games in a season for the first time since 2022.

Southern next hosts Central Oklahoma in its Pink Game Sunday at Hal Bodon Field. First kick is set for 1 p.m., CT.
