JOPLIN, Mo. – Missouri Southern Director of Athletics
Rob Mallory announced Monday the promotion of
Joshua Moore to Head Volleyball Coach after serving as the Lions' Interim Head Coach.
"I am extremely excited to name
Joshua Moore our Head Volleyball Coach," Mallory said of the elevation. "Joshua stepped up for this program in difficult circumstances last spring and has done an outstanding job. While we fell short of our goals on the court this fall, anyone watching could see how competitive the team was against high level competition. He has recruited well despite carrying the interim title. I love the current culture of the program, and I am excited to see it flourish under Joshua's leadership."
"I'm honored to be officially named Head Coach of the Missouri Southern Volleyball program," Moore said of the announcement. "I'm grateful for the opportunity and excited for our future. I've been so humbled by the love and support I've received from fans, players, alumni and the department, and I can't wait to continue the growth and development of our team."
Moore, who took over as acting head coach in October 2024, led the Lions to a 10-18 mark in 2025 as the interim head coach, which was a four-win improvement from the season prior. He also coached MSSU to four MIAA wins in 2025 including a season sweep of Newman.
Under Moore's leadership,
Alana Moesch was named to the 2025 All-MIAA Volleyball Second Team after she paced MSSU and the league with a career-best 370 kills (3.70 kills/set) and 423.5 points (4.24 points/set).
Prior to being MSSU's interim head coach, Moore spent three seasons on staff as an assistant coach. Over that period, he coached eight All-MIAA selections, four MIAA All-Tournament Team selections, five CSC Academic All-District Honorees, and three Glen Dolence Leadership Award Winners.
In 2023, he helped the Lions finish over .500 for the first season since 2010. MSSU also won its first conference tournament match in program history.
Moore is a 2020 graduate of Missouri Southern with a bachelor's in Secondary English Education. A Webb City, Missouri, native, he also earned his Master's of Science in Management from Southern in 2023.
