Bolivar, Mo. – The Missouri Southern women's volleyball team took on the Southwest Baptist Classic. On day two Missouri Southern took on the Truman State University Bulldogs. The Lions edged out the Bulldogs, 3-2. Moving to a 2-9 overall record.
Game 1: Missouri Southern (2-8) vs. Truman State (0-12)
Set 1: Missouri Southern 25 | Truman State 27
The opening set was a tightly contested battle, featuring 10 ties as both teams traded points. The Bulldogs eventually gained the upper hand, pulling ahead by three.
Kyra Thomas ignited a scoring rally, with
Anny Montano following up with consecutive kills to bring the score to 21-20. Truman State closed out the set by clinching the final two points.
Set 2: Missouri Southern 25 | Truman State 20
The Lions surged ahead 12-10 with a four-point run, fueled by kills from
Anny Montano,
Fernanda Merancio (two), and
Amelia Neels. Shortly after, Missouri Southern extended their lead with a five-point burst, highlighted by two kills from Neels, a kill from Montano, and a combined block from the pair. Maintaining their offensive pressure, the Lions closed out the set with a final kill from Montano.
Set 3: Missouri Southern 25 | Truman State 21
The third set remained tight as both teams traded points early. Missouri Southern pulled ahead 10-6, following consecutive kills from
Anny Montano and
Alana Moesch. Late in the set, Truman State closed the gap to 22-21, but the Lions responded decisively with a kill from
Amelia Neels, a double block by Moesch and
Kyra Thomas, and a final kill from Moesch to close out the set.
Set 4: Missouri Southern 22 | Truman State 25
Truman State started strong, building an early 13-8 lead. A kill from
Amelia Neels halted their momentum and sparked a five-point rally for the Lions, highlighted by three aces from
Sydney Unruh and a kill from
Anny Montano. The Bulldogs managed to hold on to their advantage and secured the fourth set.
Set 5: Missouri Southern 15 | Truman State 9
Tori Hamilton opened strong for the Lions, serving three consecutive aces to give Missouri Southern an early lead. The Lions responded to a Bulldogs rally by reclaiming momentum with a four-point surge, featuring kills from
Anny Montano and
Fernanda Merancio, along with an ace from
Kyla Randall. Missouri Southern kept the pressure on, maintaining control to secure the victory over the Bulldogs.
