04.09.24

Kansas City, Mo. - For the second straight week, Peyton Barton was announced as the MIAA Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week. During the indoor season, Barton was named the Field Athlete of the Week six times.

Peyton Barton and the Missouri Southern track & field teams were in Pittsburg, Kansas on Saturday, competing at the 16th Annual David Suenram Gorilla Classic. In his two events, Barton brought home a 1st place finish and a 2nd place finish, recording NCAA qualifying marks in both. He won the Hammer Throw, tossing a personal record mark of 66.91m which is the second-best in program history, and currently ranks 2nd among all NCAA Division II athletes this season. Also competing in the Discus, Barton placed 2nd with a throw of 56.14m, just one inch behind the victor. That mark also places him 2nd in all of NCAA DII on the year.

The MSSU men's team is still ranked #5 in the most recent USTFCCCA National Ratings, the women's team now ranked #16. A distance crew will head to Azusa, California for the Bryan Clay Invitational on Friday, the throws team will travel to Warrensburg, Missouri for the Mule Relays also on Friday, and most of the team will be competing at the Midwest Classic on Friday and Saturday, hosted by Emporia State.
