Joplin, Mo. - Following his MIAA Pitcher of the Week honor on Monday,
Cole Gayman was named the Central Region Pitcher of the Week by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, announced by the organization. This is his second time earning the recognition, also receiving the honor on February 7 earlier this season.
After being named the conference Pitcher of the Week, Gayman was nominated for Regional Pitcher of the Week where he was then voted as the winner of the Central Region.
Cole Gayman opened the team's final home series of the regular season with a statement. In that contest, Gayman threw all 9.0, holding the Griffons scoreless. He surrendered just 3 hits and 2 walks, holding opposing batters to a .107 average, and striking out 5 in the process. The game was played across town at Joe Becker Stadium, throwing it back to where the team played prior to the building of Warren Turner Field.
On the year, Gayman has a 9-1 record in 12 starts. His ERA sits at 1.93 and batters are hitting .173 off him, both numbers lead the MIAA. Over 74.2 innings pitched, Gayman has struck out 79 batters, giving up just 30 walks.
The team will face Central Missouri in Warrensburg for their final series of the regular season. Game one of that series will be played on Friday, April 26 at 1:00pm.
