Kansas City, Mo. - With the outdoor track & field season underway, the MIAA is back to awarding athletes with weekly track and field honors. On Tuesday, the conference named
Peyton Barton the field athlete of the week. No stranger to the award, Barton was named the MIAA Field Athlete of the Week six times during the indoor season.
Barton was part of a crew that traveled to Emporia State on Thursday and Southwest Baptist on Saturday. At the ESU Relays, Barton claimed two 1st place finishes, taking home victories in the Discus and Hammer Throw. His toss of 66.31m in the Hammer Throw is the second best in MSSU outdoor history and currently ranks at the top of all NCAA Division II throwers this season. Additionally, Barton recorded NCAA qualifying throws in the Discus at both meets, tossing marks of 53.64m and 53.19m.
Earlier today, the USTFCCCA released the week two national poll. The Missouri Southern men's track & field team jumped from #14 to #5. Also improving from week one, the Missouri Southern women's track & field team went from #12 to #11.
The team will be close to home for their next meet, competing at the 16th Annual David Suenram Gorilla Classic on Saturday, April 6. A schedule of events for that meet can be found
