Joplin, Mo. - The Missouri Southern baseball team played game two of their series with Washburn Saturday afternoon. The Ichabods scored three late to even the series with a 7-5 win, handing Southern their first loss at home this season. Overall, the Lions have a 25-6 (12-3 MIAA) record on the year.
The visitors were the first on the scoreboard, plating a run in the second inning. Wasting no time, the Lions scored two of their own in the bottom of the second to take the lead. It was
Garrett Rice who hit a double to right-center, scoring
Wyatt Morgan and
Tyler Ferguson.
Washburn evened things in the top of the third, then took a 4-2 lead in the fifth inning.
Tyler Ferguson led off the bottom of the seventh with a single to left, then
Garrett Rice was hit by a pitch to put runners at first and second. The Ichabods nearly escaped the threat, but
Henry Kusiak sent one over the left field wall to give the Lions a 5-4 lead.
Washburn responded with three runs in the eighth and Missouri Southern was unable to mount the comeback, ending 7-5 in favor of the Ichabods.
Henry Kusiak was 1-4 with 3 RBI on his home run.
Garrett Rice had the other 2 RBI on a double.
Tyler Ferguson finished 2-4 at the plate, scoring a run as well.
The teams will wrap up the series Sunday afternoon, scheduled for a 1:00pm start.
