Pittsburg, Kan. - The Missouri Southern baseball team was back in Pittsburg for game two of their series with the Gorillas. MSSU took the lead in the top of the fifth, but PSU scored one in the bottom of the inning and another in the seventh to even the series with a 5-4 final score. The loss ended an eight game win streak and moves the Lions to 22-5 (10-2 MIAA) on the season.
The Lions had runners on first and second in the opening frame, but were unable to score any runs. Pittsburg State then kicked off the scoring, taking a 3-0 lead in the first. After a scoreless second,
Henry Kusiak came home on a ground out in the third to make it 3-1 Gorillas.
MSSU was able to load the bases with two outs in the fifth inning, bringing
Nate Mieszkowski to the plate. He came up big, knocking a double down the right field line to clear the bases and give the Lions a 4-3 lead. Wasting no time, the Gorillas evened the score at 4-4 in the bottom of the inning. The hosts took the lead in the seventh and never looked back, keeping the score at 5-4 for the final.
Nate Mieszkowski was 1-4 on the day with a double and 3 RBI.
Treghan Parker went 2-4 with a double, driving in a run and scoring another himself.
Henry Kusiak made history once again, recording his 776th career at-bat in the first inning, the most at-bats in MSSU history. On the day, he went 2-4 with a run scored.
The series finale will take place on Sunday with the first pitch scheduled for 12:00pm at Al Ortolani Field.
