Shawnee, Okla. - The Missouri Southern baseball team played a midweek road contest against Oklahoma Baptist on Tuesday, the second meeting between the teams this season. Oklahoma Baptist evened the series with a 20-10 victory on Tuesday, after Missouri Southern took the first contest 21-6 on February 13. The loss moves the Lions to 14-4 (2-1 MIAA) on the season.
Missouri Southern kicked off the high-scoring affair in the first inning, as
Ethan Clark doubled to right field to score
Drew Townsend, and
Treghan Parker drove in Clark on a single. The hosts wasted no time responding, putting up four runs in their half of the first for a 4-2 lead.Â
Garrett Rice started the second inning with a solo shot to left-center, then
Henry Kusiak drove one up the middle to bring home
Tyler Ferguson, evening the score.
Treghan Parker helped the Lions regain the lead, picking up an RBI on a bases-loaded hit by pitch. Another big inning by the Bison regave the hosts the lead at 11-5 heading into the third.Â
The Lions chipped away at that deficit in the third, as
Garrett Rice scored on a fielding error, and
Tyler Ferguson snuck home on a wild pitch.
Will Doherty then sent one over the left field wall, scoring
Drew Townsend in the process. OBU was quiet in the third, but they scored another five in the fourth to take a 16-9 lead.Â
Henry Kusiak picked up another RBI on a sacrifice fly in the sixth, bringing home
Tyler Ferguson. The Bison responded with another run in their half of the sixth, then plated another three in the eighth to end it 20-10.Â
Tyler Ferguson went 3-4 at the plate, crossing the plate 3 times in the contest.
Henry Kusiak and
Will Doherty both recorded a couple of RBI on a pair of hits each.
Drew Townsend scored 3 runs, going 1-2 in hit at-bats, drawing 4 walks on the day.Â
The team will return to Joplin for their next contest, hosting the Newman Jets in a three game series. Those contests will take place on Friday, March 1 through Sunday, March 3. Game times are scheduled for 3:00pm, 1:00pm, and 1:00pm.Â
