New Orleans, La. - The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced their weekly Athletes of the Week on Monday.
Peyton Barton was named NCAA Division II Athlete of the Week by the organization following another record-setting performance at the MIAA Indoor Championships on Saturday. This is his second time receiving the honor this season. Prior to this year, only two Southern athletes had won the award.
All season long
Peyton Barton has been upping his weight throw record, sitting at the top of NCAA Division II all season. At the MIAA Indoor Track & Field Championships this past weekend, Barton recorded a throw of 23.13m to be crowned the MIAA weight throw champion. That throw was a school record, MIAA record, facility record, is the second-farthest effort in NCAA DII history, and ranks in the top-10 among all national performers.
The NCAA will announce the selections for the 2024 Indoor National Championships on Tuesday, February 27 at 5:00pm CST. That meet will take place on March 8-9, hosted by Pittsburg State.
