Kansas City, Mo. - The MIAA has named
Henry Kusiak the Hitter of the Week, announced by the conference Monday afternoon. This is his first time receiving the award this season.
Henry Kusiak helped the Lions to a 4-1 record on the week, including an MIAA series win over Fort Hays State on the road. At the plate, Kusiak recorded 10 hits in 20 at-bats with 7 going for extra bases- 5 doubles and 2 home runs- recording a 1.050 slugging percentage. He drove in 8 runs and scored 7 himself. Additionally, he walked twice and was hit by pitch five times for an on-base percentage of .607. Following this performance, Kusiak is just 6 hits from tying the MSSU all-time hits record.
The week started with a 7-4 victory over Mary, then continued the next day as the Lions took down Northeastern State 14-6 in a non-conference contest. In their series with Fort Hays State, the Lions won game one 14-10 and game two 23-5, but fell 5-3 in game three.
The baseball team will play a mid-week contest at Oklahoma Baptist on Tuesday, February 27, then they'll return home for an MIAA series against the Newman Jets this upcoming Friday-Sunday.
