Southern Takes Down Newman on Senior Day

Joplin, Mo. – The Missouri Southern women's volleyball team hosted the Newman University Jets in Leggett & Platt Athletic Center. The Lions defeated the Jets on Senior Day, with Missouri Southern's Kyla Randall reaching a milestone of 1,000 career digs in the victory over Newman.

Set 1: Missouri Southern 25 | Newman 13
Alana Moesch and Josey Goldberg struck first for the Lions, securing a 4-2 lead. Newman responded quickly, trading points and eventually taking a narrow 9-8 advantage. Anny Montano halted their momentum with a decisive kill, igniting a Southern rally. Moesch continued the surge with back-to-back kills, pushing the Lions ahead 11-10.
 
Southern added a 7-point jump, led by a block from Amelia Neels and an ace from Sydney Unruh, sealing the set with a commanding 25-13 victory.
 
Set 2: Missouri Southern 25 | Newman 15
The Lions opened the second set with a strong 3-0 start fueled by back-to-back kills from Alana Moesch and an ace from Landrey VanOverschelde. A dominant five-point run extended their lead to 9-2, highlighted by a block and a kill from both Fernanda Merancio and Amelia Neels. The Jets mounted a mid-set rally, narrowing the gap to just four points at 17-14. However, Southern responded with a commanding 7-1 run, with key contributions from Merancio, Josey Goldberg, Kyla Randall, and Neels, securing the set and maintaining their momentum.
 
Set 3: Missouri Southern 17 | Newman 25
Both teams came out strong, trading points in a competitive start to the third set. Newman gained the upper hand, taking a 13-10 lead. Alana Moesch ignited a four-point surge, with key contributions from Fernanda Merancio and Josey Goldberg. However, the Jets found their rhythm, regained the lead, and held on to force the match into a fourth set.
 
Set 4: Missouri Southern 25 | Newman 20
Southern jumped out to a commanding 15-9 lead with contributions from Josey Goldberg, Landrey VanOverschelde, Fernanda Merancio, Alana Moesch, Anny Montano, Amelia Neels, and Kyla Randall. Newman responded with a four-point run, narrowing the gap to just two points. However, the Lions held their ground, and Merancio sealed the match with a decisive kill.
