Lions Look To Remain Perfect In January Hosting Rogers State

Joplin, Mo. - The Missouri Southern Women's basketball team (14-4, 10-2 MIAA) look to accomplish a perfect month of basketball, accomplished last in November 2022, as they host the Hillcats of Rogers State. The MIAA conference leading Missouri Southern Lions most recently won their 11th-straight game at home against Northeastern State, 72-44. Previous to the Riverhawks, the Lions defeated Emporia State, 76-43, and Washburn, 69-50, on the road.

Scouting the Lions
The Lions look to accomplish a perfect month of basketball, accomplished last in November 2022, as they host the Hillcats of Rogers State. The MIAA conference leading Missouri Southern Lions most recently won their 11th-straight game at home against Northeastern State, 72-44. Previous to the Riverhawks, the Lions defeated Emporia State, 76-43, and Washburn, 69-50, on the road.

Ryan Franklin led the Lions with a career-high 23 points (11-16 FG), eight rebounds and four blocks in the 28-point victory over the Riverhawks. Hannah Burg finished with 13 points (5-5 FG, 3-3 3P), four rebounds and three assists in her first career start. 

Ryan Franklin leads the Lions in points per game with 12.1 ppg. Three other Lions average double-digit points per game as well, Kryslyn Jones (11.8), Kaitlin Hunnicutt (10.8) and Brandi Hudson (10.5). Ryan Franklin also leads the rebounding category with 6.0 rpg.

Scouting the Hillcats
The Hillcats of Rogers State travel to Joplin to take on Missouri Southern after a 8-10 (3-9 MIAA) start to their season. The Hillcats most recently traveled to Pittsburg State to take on the Gorillas in a 82-48 loss. Previous to the Gorillas, the Hillcats took a loss at home to #17 Central Missouri, 65-37, and defeated Lincoln, 61-54.
 
Leading the scoring for Rogers State is Alayzha Knapp, a 6-2 Senior Forward. Through 18 games, Knapp averages 15.9 points per game on 40.4% shooting from the field and 29.5% from beyond the arch.

One other Hillcat averages near double-digit scoring which is Alyza Aikins (8.1). The leading rebounder for Rogers State is Trinity Jackson, who averages 6.8 rebounds per game.
