Southern Football Set To Open Season With #5 Northwest Missouri

Joplin, Mo. - The Missouri Southern football program will open the 2023 season at home against #5 nationally ranked Northwest Missouri. Kickoff between the Lions and Bearcats is set for 7 PM on Thursday, August 31 at Fred G. Hughes Stadium.

Last Year's Matchup: 
The contest between Missouri Southern and Northwest Missouri last season ended with a final score of 27-5 in favor of the Bearcats. Despite the final score, the Lions held their own in the first half, getting on the board first with a safety and trailing only 7-5 heading into halftime. Colton Winder led the defense with 8 tackles, including a tackle for loss. Luke Sampson completed 16 passes for 167 yards on the afternoon, 63 of those yards going to Jaedon Stoshak
