Lions Win Eight Events & Had 15 NCAA Marks At David Suenram Gorilla Challenge

Pittsburg, Kan. - The Missouri Southern nationally ranked outdoor track and field programs competed at the David Suenram Gorilla Challenge on Saturday Apr. 8th at Carnie Smith Stadium. Southern had eighth event wins and 15 NCAA Qualifying marks today between the two programs.

1500m Run
Hurdles
  • Malachi Pipkin won the 110m men's event with an NCAA Qualifying time of 14.39 seconds, JaDarius Pigg finished second with a time of 14.75.
  • Kiara Smith won the 100m women's event with an NCAA Qualifying time of 13.79 seconds.
  • Pigg competed in the 400m men's event as well and finished fourth with a time of 54.41 seconds and Simon Siebert finished seventh with a time of 54.41.

Javelin
Shot Put
  • Samariae Bonds won the women's event with an NCAA Qualifying mark of 14.07m.
  • Cedric Pearson finished third in the men's event with an NCAA Qualifying mark of 17.23m.

400m Dash
  • Chardae Overstreet won the women's event with an NCAA Qualifying time of 55.26 seconds the sixth best time in program history and LaNea Wallace finished fourth with an NCAA Qualifying time of 55.92.
  • Kyzer Gann-Vega and Jacob Breedlove finished the men's event with times of 50.36 seconds and 50.45 to finish 13th and 14th.

Triple Jump 
Hammer Throw
  • Peyton Barton finished second in the men's event but was the top competing collegiate athlete finishing with an NCAA Qualifying mark of 65.87m the fourth best mark in program history as Connor Boyd finished third with an NCAA Qualifying mark of 61.64m.
  • Mallory Huber finished third in the women's event with a mark of 50.86m and Bonds finished ninth with a mark of 47.18m.
100m Dash
  • Smith finished second in the women's event and was the top collegiate athlete finishing with an NCAA Qualifying time of 11.77 seconds.
  • Pipkin finished seventh in the men's event with a time of 10.69 seconds.

200m Dash
  • Smith finished second in the women's event with an NCAA Qualifying time of 24.14 seconds tied for the eighth fastest time in program history, Overstreet finished fourth with a time of 24.79 and A. Hobbs finished 26th with a time of 27.26.

Pole Vault
Discus
  • Pearson and Barton finished third and fourth in the men's event with NCAA Qualifying marks of 51.57m and 51.33m.
  • Huber finished 12th in the women's event with a mark of 37.27m. 

5000m Run 
4x100m Relay
  • The men's 4x100m relay team of Candrl, Pipkin, Gann-Vega and Siebert finished fifth with a time of 41.80 seconds.

High Jump 
  • Rylee Darnell finished 12th in the women's event with a mark of 1.53m. 

Up next for the Lions will be the Mule Relays hosted by Central Missouri at Walton Stadium on Friday Apr. 14th.
