Joplin, Mo. - The 17th ranked Missouri Southern baseball program lost 11-8 in the regular season home finale against Northeastern State at Warren Turner Field on Sunday, Apr. 23rd.
The Lions (36-11, 23-7 MIAA) were led by
Matt Miller going 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored and an RBI.
Treghan Parker and
Nate Mieszkowski finished with two RBIs each and Parker being walked five times.
Owen Schneider,
Kyle Kaempf,
Trent Harris and
Laif Hultine recorded at least one strikeout with Harris having six and Hultine five.
Northeastern State (19-24, 12-18 MIAA) scored in the first inning to take an early 1-0 lead before a Miller home run down the right field line tied it at 1-1 in the second inning. NSU scored four runs in the third to take a 5-1 lead with back-to-back RBI hits by Parker and
Henry Kusiak cutting the lead down to 5-4.
In the fifth inning the RiverHawks hit a solo home run in the top half with the Lions scoring four runs in the bottom half to take an 8-6 lead following a Mieszkowski double to right center scoring
Drew Davis and
Ryan Doran. Northeastern State hit two home runs in the seventh to take the lead and claim the 11-8 decision in the finale game of the weekend.
Up next for the Lions will be Missouri Western in a three game weekend conference series to conclude the regular season. Southern will play the Griffons on Friday, Apr. 28th at 6:00pm from the Griffon Baseball Field with games on Saturday and Sunday scheduled for 1:00pm start times.
