Joplin, Mo. - The 17th ranked Missouri Southern baseball program run ruled Washburn 17-7 in the last midweek game of the season on Tuesday Apr. 18th at Warren Turner Field.
The Lions (34-10) hit six home runs today as a team with
Chayton Beck hitting two for four RBIs as
Treghan Parker, Garrettt Rice, Wil Doherty and
Matt Miller hitting a home run.
Kyle Kaempf earned his first win of the season from 3.1 innings of relief striking out four as
Cale McCallister and
Jeremiah Kennedy finished off the game on the mound.
Washburn (24-18) scored the first two runs of the game in the first inning but a solo home run by Parker and a two run home run by Rice in the bottom half of the inning gave the Lions a 3-2 lead. The Ichabods scored three runs in the top of the second inning before a five run bottom half gave the Lions a 10-5 lead following home runs by Beck and Miller.
Southern added another home run in the third inning with a solo shot by Doherty to dead center making it 11-5. Washburn scored in the fourth inning with the Lions responding again in the bottom half with three runs highlighted by Beck's second home run of the game to make it 14-6 Lions.Â
In the fifth inning the Lions scored two runs and one more in the sixth to cruise into a run rule victory 17-7. This was the 24th game this season that the Lions scored 10 or more runs and the 11th run rule victory of the season.
Up next for Southern will be the last home weekend of the regular season, hosting Northeastern State in a three game series beginning on Friday Apr. 21st at 6:00pm. from Warren Turner Field.
