No. 17 Lions To Host Jets

Joplin, Mo. - The 17th ranked Missouri Southern baseball program will host the Newman University Jets in a three day conference series beginning on Friday Apr. 14th from Joe Becker Stadium at 6:00pm.

The weekend schedule has the two programs playing at Joe Becker on Friday with a 6:00pm first pitch followed by 1:00pm start times for Saturday and Sunday from Warren Turner Field to conclude the series.

Southern (30-10, 18-6 MIAA) as a team is hitting .324 with 11.5 hits, 2.5 doubles, 2.1 home runs, 9.7 runs, 0.9 stolen bases with a 85.0 percent success rate and as a pitching staff the Lions have a 5.20 ERA with opponents hitting .276 and striking out 8.2 times per game.

Ethan Clark leads the team with a .386 average with 49 hits, 11 doubles, two home runs and 39 RBIs. Nate Mieszkowski is hitting .384 with 57 runs scored, 68 hits, nine doubles, two triples, 12 home runs, 46 RBIs and is 9-for-9 in stolen base attempts. Henry Kusiak is hitting .352 with 49 runs scored, 57 hits, 14 doubles, 10 home runs and 43 RBIs. Matt Miller is hitting .347 with 43 runs scored, 52 hits, nine doubles, two triples, 15 home runs and 51 RBIs. Garrett Rice is hitting .340 with 45 runs scored, 52 hits, seven doubles, nine home runs and 35 RBIs. Will Doherty is hitting .305 with 39 hits, 12 doubles, five home runs and 29 RBIs. Drew Davis is hitting .312 with 29 hits, eight doubles, three home runs and 13 RBIs.

On the mound the Lions have had seven start games in Cole Woods (7-2, 3.56 ERA, 69 SO), Cale McCallister (3-0, 4.21 ERA, 22 SO), Owen Schneider (1-1, 4.76 ERA, 26 SO), Cole Gayman (5-0, 4.93 ERA, 39 SO), Trent Harris (4-0, 6.14 ERA, 29 SO), Kyle Kaempf (0-1, 7.16 ERA, 16 SO) and Steen Lane (3-1, 7.71 ERA, 16 SO). Kyle Moore is the most used reliever appearing in 17 games for a 5-2 record with three saves and a 2.83 ERA while striking out 46. Laif Hultine has appeared in 16 games for a 2-1 record with three saves and a 2.70 ERA while striking out 20. 

Newman (19-21, 11-13 MIAA) as a team is hitting .325 with 10.8 hits, 1.9 doubles, 1.3 home runs, 8.5 runs, 1.6 stolen bases with a 83.3 percent success rate and as a pitching staff the Jets have a 7.18 ERA with opponents hitting .309 and striking out 7.2 times per game. 

Jenner Steele leads the team with a .394 average, 63 hits, 12 doubles and 13 home runs while scoring 38 runs and driving in 48. Jake Angelico is hitting .363 with 45 runs scored, 53 hits, nine doubles, 10 home runs, 56 RBIs and is 23-for-25 in stolen base attempts. Eli Wohl is hitting .358 with 33 runs scored, 43 hits, seven doubles, three home runs, 27 RBIs and is 11-for-12 in stolen base attempts. Shawn Marquis is hitting .330 with 37 runs scored, 36 hits, eight doubles, 21 RBIs and is 12-for-13 in stolen base attempts. Jason Schneider is hitting .329 with 42 runs scored, 49 hits, 10 doubles, five triples, four home runs and 23 RBIs. Jack Kiser is hitting .309 with 34 hits, six doubles and 16 RBIs to round out the qualified hitters batting above .300.

On the mound the Jets have had seven start games in Garrett VanDeventer (5-3, 5.00 ERA, 44 SO), Nate Denniston (3-3, 5.30 ERA), 48 SO), Asher Finke (3-4, 7.17 ERA, 46 SO), Colby Wilson (1-5, 6.85 ERA, 34 SO), Andrew Hudson (0-0, 0.00 ERA, 2 SO), Garrett Calderon (1-1, 10.05 ERA, 8 SO) and Thomas Ford (0-0, 45.00 ERA, 1 SO). Ian Lecki is the most used reliever appearing in 17 games for a 3-1 record, 10.57 ERA with 29 strikeouts, Andrew Prieve has made 15 appearances for a 1-3 record and 10.20 ERA with 23 strikeouts. Justin Durnill has appeared in 13 games for a 0-0 record and 9.24 ERA with 12 strikeouts, Jaret Granger has featured 12 times for a 0-1 record and 9.64 ERA with 13 strikeouts.
