Lions Ready For Final MIAA Midweek Game Against Hillcats

Joplin, Mo. - The fourth ranked Missouri Southern baseball program will host Rogers State on Tuesday Apr. 11th at Warren Turner field with a 6:00pm first pitch scheduled for the final MIAA midweek game of the season.

In the first two games of the midweek series the Lions claimed wins beginning with a 19-3 run rule in seven innings at Warren Turner Field on Mar. 14th and 17-6 in Claremore, Okla. on Mar. 28th.

Southern (29-10, 17-6 MIAA) as a team is hitting .321 with 11.4 hits, 2.5 doubles, 2.1 home runs, 0.8 stolen bases with a 82.0 percent success rate and 9.7 runs per game. The pitching staff has a 5.30 ERA with opponents hitting .279 and striking out 8.2 per game.

Ethan Clark leads the team with a .377 average with 46 hits, 11 doubles and 37 RBIs. Nate Mieszkowski is hitting .372 with 55 runs scored, 64 hits, nine doubles, 12 home runs and 46 RBIs. Matt Miller is hitting .349 with 43 runs, 51 hits, nine doubles, 15 home runs and 49 RBIs. Henry Kusiak is hitting .344 with 46 runs, 54 hits, 11 doubles, 10 home runs and 40 RBIs. Garrett Rice is hitting .338 with 44 runs, 51 hits, 7 doubles, eight home runs and 33 RBIs. Will Doherty is hitting .315 with 29 runs, 39 hits, 12 doubles, five home runs and 29 RBIs. Drew Davis is hitting .315 with 22 uns, 28 hits, eight doubles, three home runs and 13 RBIs. 

On the mound the Lions that have started games are Cole Woods (7-2, 3.56 ERA), Cole Gayman (5-0, 4.93 ERA), Cale McCallister (3-0, 4.21 ERA), Owen Schneider (1-1, 4.76 ERA), Trent Harris (3-0), Kyle Kaempf (0-1), Steen Lane (3-1). Kyle Moore is the most used reliever with 17 appearances for 47.2 innings for a 5-2 record and three saves. Laif Hultine has made 15 appearances and is 2-1 with three saves in 19.0 innings.

Rogers State (22-14, 10-13 MIAA) as a team is hitting .295 with 9.8 hits, 2.0 doubles, 0.6 home runs and 1.9 stolen bases with a 82.9 percent success rate and 6.9 runs per game. The pitching staff has a 6.47 ERA with opponents hitting .302 and striking out 8.4 per game.

AJ Folds leads the team with a .416 average with 34 runs scored, 47 hits, 11 doubles, two triples, 13 RBIs and is 12-for-15 in stolen base attempts. Prescott Horn is hitting .408 with 42 runs scored, 58 hits, 16 doubles, four home runs, 48 RBIs and is 13-for-15 in stolen base attempts. Gavin Mestas is hitting .356 with 43 runs, 52 hits, 14 doubles, seven home runs, 27 RBIs and is 12-for-13 in stolen base attempts. Carson Cheatwood is hitting .284 with 25 runs, 25 hits, two doubles and is 12-for-14 in stolen base attempts.

On the mound the Hillcats that have started games are Rece Parker (5-2, 5.31 ERA), Andres De Leon (2-4, 5.88 ERA), Giancarlo Cortez (2-2, 7.20 ERA), Colton Anderson (2-2, 5.19 ERA), Nate Wohlgemuth (2-1, 5.75 ERA) and Tyler Hankins (2-2, 10.59 ERA). Octavio leads the team with 12 appearances from the bullpen for a 3-0 record and eight saves in 20.1 innings. Dean Grisham has made 11 appearances in relief for a 2-0 record in 11.0 innings. 

Following the game against Rogers State the Lions will host Newman in a three game conference weekend series beginning with a Friday Apr. 14th game at Joe Becker Stadium slated for a 6:00pm first pitch.
